Weekend Spa Getaways -Day Spa Getaways-Retreats-Relaxing Getaways

"Relax and Unwind - I've found you the best weekend spa getaways!"

If you are in desperate need of some R&RR then why not book yourself in for a weekend spa, day spa or how about spa retreats?

This would be great for a romantic weekend away or even for a girls weekend getaway, or a treat for your Mum for Mother's Day or her birthday.

I don't really think you need an excuse - just get it booked and let the stresses of work and your busy life just melt away!

Firstly lets just be clear about what you get here....

There are 3 types of spa weeked getaways featured on this page

1) Actual health spa retreats where you can have spa treatments as well as yoga, tai chi, counselling one on one sessions if you want to. I've not included anything that seems a bit too out there! A couple of the places do special programmes like detox and weight loss if that is your thing.

2) Beautiful resorts that have great spas

3) Day Spa Getaways where you can still go away for the weekend and stay somewhere nice but then spend a day or half a day at a lovely spa.

Weekend Spa Getaways In NSW

  • Wolgan Valley Resort Lithgow in the Blue Mountains would probably be my pick for somewhere local to Sydney but at 6 stars, it's probably way too expensive for most! Service amazing, remote location and lovely spa treatments.

  • Hopewood Health Retreat is near the Blue Mountains just outside of Sydney. Here you can stay for the weekend and enjoy all their classes like yoga and mediation and the package includes a massage treatment, accommodation and healthy meals.

You can just come for the day and you could stay in the area and combine your stay with some lovely walks. See my page on Blue Mountain National Park for what to see and do.

  • Villa Thalgo is in the Hawkesbury River and part of the Sebel Resort in Hawkesbury Valley Packages are available that combine up to 6 hours of spa treatments with accommodation. This is also a good base from which to explore the many villages of the Hawkesbury region.

  • Gaia Retreat & Spa in Byron Bay Hinterland is owned by the very lovely Olivia Newton John. This is a wonderfully calming and spiritual place. You can stay for 2 nights and enjoy all the activities and facilities including sauna, pool, gym, tennis court, yoga etc and the room rate includes a $250 voucher for the spa so you can pick and choose what treatments you would like. Possibly my favourite spa in Australia and well worth a visit. Day spa options available too.
  • Another great option (if you can afford it is Arajilla Retreat on Lord Howe Island Beautiful, serene and amazing treatments.

  • If you are looking for a day spa option in Sydney itself then the Observatory Hotel is a good option. You can use the pool and sauna and book yourself a treatment. You could also include afternoon tea in the restaurant here.
  • If you aren't bothered about having a pool and sauna but just want great treatments then look at Milk Day Spa in Paddington. They are a friendly professional bunch who do THE best massages and facials in Sydney (well in my opinion anyway!)
  • The Golden Door chain of health spas is another good option. They have one at the Peppers Salt resort in Kingscliff Australia as well as The Golden Door Health Retreat Elysia in the Hunter Valley, where you can stay as well as come for the day.

    Weekend Spa Getaways in Queensland

  • Best option in Queensland is Gwinganna lifestyle retreat. It's not far from the Gold Coast and they do free transfers to and from the Gold Coast Airport.

Their two week stay includes modern accommodation, use of the facilities and daily activities. You also get a $250 voucher to use at their spa.

  • Whilst there are other spa retreats in Queensland, many insist on a 7 night stay and focus more on mental as well as phsical wellbeing such as improving self esteem etc, so I wouldn't recommend these for a weekend away
  • The Port Douglas and Palm Cove area in Tropical North Queensland have some fab resorts that offer great spas on site. Top picks here would be Shantara Resort & Spa Port Douglas or Mai Tai Resort nr Port Douglas

  • The Golden Door Spas are a good option as they are usually attached to a hotel, so you can either treat it as a day spa or build your weekend around staying here. Good options in Queensland include the The Golden Door Health Retreat Gold Coast Hinterland.

Another option would be the day spa at the Sheraton Mirage Resort This is right on the beach and has a lovely lagoon pool. A great spot to combine weekend spa getaway with some Gold Coast Action.

    Weekend Spa Getaways in Victoria

A charming weekend away from Melbourne would be a visit to the picturesque town of Daylesford. It's only about an hour and a half drive from Melbourne making one of those perfect weekend spa getaways.

This place has wonderful natural springs (Hepburn springs) which means there are plenty of spas in the area to choose from. They are however mostly day spas although there are plenty of lovely places to stay in the area.

That said, there is a great retreat in Daylesford where you can stay for the weekend called Samadhi Spa & Wellness Retreat This is a great place to "find yourself" again. Totally relaxing and rejuvenating.

For some day spa ideas in Daylesford check out the link below

Daylesford and Spas in Victoria .

For places to stay in Daylesford try:

Pendower House $$$ A B&B style place with loving touches (great breakfasts, lamingtons and home made biscuits provided during the day...)

Lake House - has its own spa on site. Restaurant is really good. Check what room you will be staying in as some are very small.

Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat in Hepburn Springs is another good option. I'm a big fan of the Peppers chain of hotels. This one won't disappoint either. Accommodation and spa packages available.

Another good option for weekend spa getaways from Melbourne is the Japanese Mountain Retreat Melbourne in Montrose. The retreat is very relaxing and most suitable for couples. The Japanese food is also a real delight.

Weekend Spa Getaways In South Australia

  • Kangaroo Island Health Resort is a beautiful place but you have to come here Monday to Wednesday. It's a fairly hefty price tag for the 3 day stay but everything is included in the price.

A weekend trip to Kangaroo Island Australia would be a marvelous way to relax and unwind and they run a day spa here on a Saturday where you can take part in the activities e.g. yoga (but you will be charged for each class you attend)

  • Authenticity in Port Elliot (80km from Adelaide) is another great option. Set in a lovely old manor house surrounded by pristine botanical gardens, this place is very relaxing. They recommend a 5 day stay but will do 2 day packages. You can just come for the day too.
  • Aquador Retreat Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills is just 30 minutes from the city and offers weekend packages that include use of the facilities and accommodation.

  • Weekend Spa Getaways in Western Australia

  • Empire Spa Retreat in the Margaret River is probably the best spa retreat in Western Australia. The place is lovely surrounded by bushland and an awesome spot to explore the Margaret River

  • Retreat and Mountain Spa is a very small retreat just 40 minutes from Perth. Accommodation rates are reasonable and then you pay for every class or treatment on top of that. The place is set in rural grounds and they offer a very personalised service given there are generally only 2 people here at any one time
  • Eco Hidden Valley Day Spa and lodges is a good option too. They are outside of Perth at Pickering Brook. Here you can stay in lovely lodges and then have massages/facials and other such treatments. If you decide to come for the day, you can use the spa facilities and one of the lodges for the day. They have special packages for the day that includes massage, facial and pedicure for about $400.

  • Weekend Spa Getaways in Tasmania

I can't think of a better place to relax and unwind than in Tasmania Australia.

There is a great health retreat called Harmony Hill Wellness Retreat & Day Spa that is conveniently only about half an hour from Hobart. Here you can relax, detox or lose weight on their special programmes. Their package includes taichi/yoga type classes, use of the facilities and some massages. Not a cheap option but certainly a good health retreat.
