Weekend Getaways WA - Perth

"Find Best Weekend Getaways WA right here!"

Weekends away from Perth is a little tricky as everything is a fair old drive. That said, there are a couple of options that are close enough for you to drive for the weekend. I think a 3 hour drive is about do-able to still make the most of the weekend.

So here are my ideas for your weekend getaways....

The Margaret River

I know it is a classic of the weekend getaways wa and you have probably already been, but have you remembered just how lovely it is? Those amazing beaches and all those wineries? It's a good 3 hour drive but it is worth it!

I think this area offers the best winery lunches in all of Australia.

But it is much more than that - plenty of adventure activities too like abseiling, cycle tours where you get to visit wineries too, mountain biking through the forest, coffee trails....tempted?

For more information go to my Margaret River page or look here for some awesome activities sited above: Activities in Margaret River Area .

Albany

At nearly 5 hours drive from Perth this one is for a long weekend only! But this is a great destination for you to relax and get away from it all no matter what the time of year

It has great beaches and snorkelling (try Middleton Beach or Salmon Hole Beach pictured above), lovely National Parks for walking, it is a great place to view the whale migration at the end of May to October and you'll find the most southern tip of Australia here.

You could explore the National Parks with a guided tour. We did this one and thoroughly enjoyed it: West Cape Howe National Park Tour .

And don't miss Emu Point where you can enjoy a bite to eat overlooking breathtaking 360 degree views.

Visit the town of Denmark, just 40 minutes away and enjoy more lovely beaches or a visit to a small winery called Siglefiles winery.

Fremantle

Whilst Fremantle is only a hop skip and a jump from Perth, it is still a lovely place to come for one of those weekend getaways wa, as it does feel quite different from Perth.

It's got a more querky edgy vibe to the place and it would be a great place to read newspapers in some funky cafe or browse the shops and markets.

There's the prison to explore and don't forget to take a trip to Little Creatures Brewery - or even enjoy a few drinks or evening meal here.

Alternatively you could combine this with being a tourist in Perth itself and do a day trip to the city - do the open top bus tour or a river cruise.

For ideas for Fremantle Accommodation try

Santa Maria Executive Suites - bit of a distance out of town so better if you have a car (but parking in Fremantle can be tricky)Lovely B&B with large TV's in the rooms.

Port Mill B&B - good location, great hosts. Leave your car at home.

Rottnest Island

Why not take the ferry from Fremantle to enjoy a weekend away on this fabulous island.

The bays and turquoise waters are to die for...we loved cycling around the island and diving into the water.

If you are into diving then there are plenty of ship wrecks to explore too.

There's also some interesting wildlife to look out for.
