Weekend Getaways Brisbane - QLD

"Where to go for best weekend getaways Brisbane"

Thinking of getting out of the city for the weekend? Looking for some ideas as to where to go? This page aims to give you plenty of destinations and activities, no matter what your agenda is.

Toowoomba

If you want to get back to nature for your weekend getaways Brisbane and see some greenery then head to Toowoomba. At only 1.5 hours drive from Brisbane, it's no wonder its a favourite with the locals.

Toowoomba is a lovely town with Botanical Gardens, Japanese Gardens, an old car/natural history museum (Cobb & Co) and plenty of parks and picnic venues (check out picnic point for example.) Granted you could see everything there is in this town in about half a day but the scenery really is delightful.

Come here if you fancy a lazy weekend in the country, reading newspapers, a good book with a few walks through lovely gardens and maybe even lunch at Preston Peak Winery.

For places to stay, try

City Golf Club Motel - lovely views over the golf course and good value for money

A good B&B would be Vacy Hall - a historic home with friendly and helpful hosts.

Moreton Bay Island

A nice choice for weekend getaways Brisbane, with pristine beaches stretching 38km. It's a good all seasons venue as you can Come during the winter for whale watching season (between mid June to late October.) or during summer to take advantage of the beaches.

This would be one of those great weekend getaways Brisbane for camping. The accommodation otherwise is a bit limited with the main place to stay being a bit over priced, unless you can get a good bargain - Tangalooma Island Resort

We enjoyed some sand tabogoning at Tangalooma (the main town on the island) Venturing further a field is also good though as the East part of the island has lovely beaches and is much less visited so feels very secluded.

The Sunshine Coast

You lucky devils having the Sunshine Coast just 2 hours from Brisbane. This is a personal favourite of mine for weekend getaways Brisbane and I simply love to stay in Noosa Australia

I love the beaches - both the main beach and sunshine beach. You could take some surf lessons here given the waves are easy here.

The Saturday market at Emundi is probably the best market I have ever been to and you could easily spend half a day here.

The boutique shops are also a joy to meander through and there are plenty of lovely bars and restaurants to enjoy in the evenings...bliss!

The Gold Coast Hinterland

Of course you can go to the Gold Coast for weekend getaways Brisbane QLD and there are ares that are less party and more chilled than the infamous surfers Paradise. You could certainly stay at Broad Beach or Main Beach for a more sophisticated weekend away. Or treat the kids to some theme park action.

But have you been to the Green behind the Gold? The Gold Coast Hinterland area is full of pretty villages and National Parks. It would certainly be a relaxing weekend away - even a romantic weekend away. You could hire a cottage and enjoy bushwalks, village life and cream teas.

For more information on the Gold Coast go to Gold Coast Holidays

Check out my Cheap Romantic Weekend Getaways page for cottage accommodation ideas in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Fraser Island

Whilst the key access point to Fraser Island is Hervey Bay, you can drive from Brisbane and get the ferry across from Rainbow Beach (Inskip Point) (near Gympie) which would take about 3.5 hours.

It is therefore perhaps a good destination for a long weekend.

This is probably my best weekend away in all of Australia. It is so much fun hiring a 4 WD and hitting the sand paths on the island. Camping right on the beach under the stars is also something different, especially if you aren't usually a camper!

Check out my page on Fraser Island Australia for more details.

Kingscliff

If you fancy a resort type holiday within easy drive from Brisbane (1 hour 20) then consider Kingscliff Australia Here you wil find 2 good quality resorts with lovely swimming pools, gyms, spas etc.

The town of Kingscliff is nice enough too and has a couple of good restaurants if you fancy leaving the resort.

All the details are on my Kingscliff Australia page.

Byron Bay

Byron Bay is under 2 hours from Brisbane and is a fab hippy beach town with lovely beaches, boutique shops, walks, a lighthouse with great views and plenty of accommodation.

You can also stay in the hinterland behind Byron Bay for cheaper accommodation and a more relaxed weekend getaway qld, still having the buzz of Byron only moments away.

My East Coast Australia page has more details on Byron Bay.
