South Bank Melbourne

"Take a stroll along the South Bank Melbourne and enjoy the views of the Yarra River and so much more!

This is probably one of the nicest walks you can do in Melbourne. The Southbank is literally the south bank of the river and whilst it was once very industrial, it has been revamped and is full of new restaurants, bars and art centres.

Whilst it's not London, it certainly reminds me of strolling along the Thames, although it's usually a lot warmer!

Must See Items along the South Bank Melbourne

Personally, I don't think you can get a better view of Melbourne than from the South Bank. The river and city in the background make for a perfect picture.

You can start your walk from anywhere but the South Bank officially starts as soon as you cross Princes Bridge. From here you can just take the steps down to the river and stroll all the way down the river until you get to the Crown Casino Melbourne complex. You can carry on up to the Exhibition centre if you like.

Key sights to take in along your stroll:

  • THE MANY RESTAURANTS AND BARS- There are so many to choose from that it is hard for me to pick a favourite. The majority are around the Crown complex or Southgate Art and leisure complex. All offer lovely views of the city so prices are a little on the high side. But still, they are enjoyable.

A couple of key ones not already mentioned in my Crown Casino Melbourne page include

  • Bear Brass Bar and Restaurant
  • World Bar and Restaurant
  • The Meat and Wine Company
  • Scusami Restaurant
  • The first two are also good for just popping in for a drink too.

    SOUTHGATE ARTS AND LEISURE PRECINCT

As mentioned above, this is great for bars and restaurants but there is always something else going on here.

The Arts Centre has a market every Sunday which has interesting things to look at.

Sidney Myer Music Bowl is a good place that often has free concerts or something interesting going on.

    THE BOUTIQUE SHOPS

Along the South Bank you'll see the odd make shift market with some interesting stalls. Both the Southgate Precinct and Crown Casino Complex have lovely boutique shops inside too, particularly in the Southgate one.

Definitely worth a look if you are into jewellrey or home stores.
