Semaphore Adelaide

"Come enjoy the seaside at Semaphore Adelaide!"

Officially the oldest seaside town in Adelaide, this suburb offers white sandy beaches, timeless amusements (think ferris wheels and carousels) and a modern shopping area.

It is certainly worth a day trip or stay a bit longer in one of its cute B&B's.

It's a great place to bring the kids or just enjoy a stroll along the beach and soak up the atmosphere in one of the new trendy cafes that are popping up on the lovely wide Semaphore Boulevard.

Getting to Semaphore

Semaphore is just a little further on from Port Adelaide. In a car it will take you about half an hour but longer on a bus of course.

From the centre of Adelaide you need to take the Port Road (A7) - Semaphore is signposted.

From Glenelg you can travel north along Tapley's Hill Road (Route A15) or Military Road.

There's buses that will get you there - route 157 that leaves North Terrace and goes directly to Semaphore.

What To See And Do?

  • Enjoy the lovely stretch of white sandy beach and let the kids swim in the safe waters
  • Enjoy the delights of the amusements here including the Ferris wheel, carousel, Water slide and crazy golf
  • Have fish and chips on the beach bought from one of the kiosks and enjoy the views
  • Take a stroll down Adelaide's widest boulevard - Semaphore Boulevard. Here you will find some delightful new cool cafes as well as a small shopping centre
  • Bring your bike (or hire one!) and cycle along the path that follows the coast
  • Take a ride on the steam train- it's an experience!
  • Enjoy some gourmet eating delights along Semaphore Boulevard - this area is really very up and coming.
  • Visit in March to see the Kite Festival - the largest in Australia. Or come in November for the Street fair along Semaphore Road.

  • Where To Stay

This is a great place for a day trip but for those of you who fancy staying here then there are a few options:

Semaphore Beach Cottage - a lovely B&B with a great garden and well equipped rooms.

Timeball Apartments Semaphore - good if you fancy more of an apartment. Located just behind the library.
