Paddington Market

"My favourite market in Sydney"

Browsing Paddington market is one of my favourite ways to spend a Saturday morning! It's hard not to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the many and varied stalls.

Granted, my hubby hates coming with me so I'd say it is probably best to come with the girls given it's focus is mainly on fashion and jewellery. That said, the shops around the market on Oxford Street have some good shops to keep your man occupied. This is certainly the trendy part of town so think designer boutique outlets and stores like Diesel - certainly not everyone's cup of tea!

How To Find Paddington Market

Paddington is a suburb a few kms outside of the main city centre.

The Market itself is located in the Paddington United Church at the top of Oxford Street (no.395)

There are plenty of buses that run up Oxford Street from the city - 380, 378 and 333 would be the main ones. Ask the bus driver where to get off.

You could walk from the city all the way up Oxford Street and the walk would probably take you about 20-30 minutes. There are shops all the way along the strip so the walk is actually really pleasant.

The market is on every Saturday from about 10am and finishes by 4pm

What To Expect To See

There are over 200 stalls to look through here at the market.

Women's clothes and jewellery occupy most of the stalls but there are also plenty others....

  • Tarot card readers
  • Fortune Tellers
  • Flower Stalls
  • Pictures and Photographs
  • Dogs Clothes and Accessories
  • Cards and Paper Products
  • Toy Stalls
  • Kids Dress Up e.g Fairy costumes
  • On top of this you will also find a courtyard selling Australian made items.

If you fancy a snack there is a shaded area where you can sit and enjoy the food and watch the world go by - You'll find Himalayan, Aussie BBQ, Artisan Bread, Fresh Juices, Thai and home made soup.

For me, I go to Paddington Market when I want to buy an item of clothing that you won't see anywhere else.

Or, If I have a friend's birthday, I know I am sure to find the perfect gift here.

For those of you from overseas, you are sure to find some Australian items to take back with you - either for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
