Old Parliament House

"Old Parliament House - a historic building and now a museum!"

This really is a beautiful building and well worth a look round. From 1927 to 1988 the Australian parliament sat here. You can literally explore all its corridors and understand some of the key moments in history that took place in this fabulous place.

As well as looking at the building as the Old Parliament house, it now houses the Museum of Australian Democracy. It's therefore a great place for kids to understand more about the unique way Australia is governed and why it is so important.

If you haven't got much time then head for are the King’s Hall and the Chambers. You should also go see the Prime minister's Office.

I really enjoyed the "Cabinet-in-Confidence" which takes you inside the Cabinet Room at a time of crisis It brings to life some of the issues that the ministers of the time would have had to face. When we were there it was abouta boat carrying 5 Vietnamese refugees. Not sure if that has changed given the recent focus on asylum seekers!
