Melbourne Attractions
"Visit the Best Melbourne Attractions"
Melbourne itself offers a huge range of attractions to suit all visitors. There's lots of leisurely pursuits - including enjoying the delicious coffee in atmospheric cafes to the more energetic attractions including running round the Botanical Gardens passing along the Yarra River.
What To See And Do in Melbourne
Here are my favourite Melbourne attractions: Explore the city The free cicrcular tram takes in all the key sites and you can hop on and hop off as you please. Sites worth looking at are Flinders Station for Federation Square's galleries and cafes; Queen Victoria Markets; Spring Street allows you to take in some of the iconic building such as the Old Treasury Building, Parliament House and Princess Theatre. You can also have a wander through Fitzroy Gardens to Captain Cook’s Cottage. Explore the Lanes For Breakfast, brunch or lunch explore the Flinders quarter in and around the lanes and alleys branching off Flinders Lane between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets. Degraves Street and Centre Place are particularly good. The lanes round here are also good for some boutique shopping. Flinders Lane (the original Melbourne lane) is good. A stroll down the Yarra The Yarra River is a nice place to take a walk and people watch – there is always something going on. You'll also find a few other Melbourne attractions here too. Just head for the big Crown Tower skyscrapers and start your walk from around there. You will find the Maritime Museum and Aquarium. You can take a cruise along the Yarra too. Head to the Northbank Promenade which is at the south end of Federation Square. From here Melbourne River Cruises have 2 different 1.5 hour cruises to choose from at a cost of $22. Explore the suburbs St Kilda is probably one of the most well known Melbourne Suburbs and is a must do of the Melbourne attractions. This is Melbourne’s somewhat shabby beach town with its very own 1912 fun fair, Lunar Park and not much has changed SINCE 1912! The place comes to life in the evenings with the trendy set. In the day however there is quite a different feel and is worth a stroll for its bakeries and cake shops (Acland Street) Why not take the official Neighbours tour. It's always sold out so book well in advance through www.bunyiptours.com Shopping - Melbourne Attractions at its best! Central Melbourne offers some great shopping: Collins Street (you’ll need the American Express)Bourke Street Mall – you’ll find the well know Austrlalian David Jones and Myer department stores hereFlinders Lane – Boutiques But to experience the real Melbourne shopping experience you have to visit Chapel Street in the suburb of Prahran and the Bridge Road in the suburb of Richmond. Neither are far out of the city and will probably only take you a 20 mins by tram or a short taxi drive. Chapel Street is over 2km long but the best shops are around Prahran. You get a great mix of established chain shops and querky boutiques. You can get there by tram on 72, 8, 0r 6 from Swanston street. Bridge Road in Richmondis full of factory outlet type shops so provided you are willing to hunt, you will certainly find a bargain. The Bridge road is probably the best value for money shopping in Melbourne.. But there’s more than just outlet shops. There is something for everyone here including records, electricals and furniture. It is also where I’d come for shoes. There’s plenty of cafes and bars to rest your weary limbs along the way.
