Hotels In Melbourne

"Hotels in Melbourne - Find Out Which hotels are the best for your budget!"

Melbourne has thousands of hotels so it can be pretty daunting when it comes to finding the right hotel. Below are a pick of the best, based on my own personal experience and those of my friends and work colleagues.

There is something on this page to suit everyone's budget - from the flash to the best budget hotels in Melbourne

You can help understand where these hotels are by looking at this map: Map of Melbourne.

Best 4 and 5 star Hotels in Melbourne

My pick would be the Crown Hotel chain. There are three all very close together but I would go for either

Crown Promenade Hotel $$$ or their brand new one, Crown Metropol Hotel which is a bit more chic and contemporary.

Both have awesome pools that look over the city. The location is great for all the bars and beautiful restaurants along the south bank and its still only a short stroll to the main square and shops too. This is where I would stay every time if dollars were not an issue!

Other 4/5 star options worth considering include:-

villa Donati

This is a much smaller, individually designed boutique hotel and if you prefer this to the big hotels (like the Crown) then this is probably a great option. There are skyline views from most rooms and the breakfast is particularly good here. $$$

or try:

Hatton Hotel Melbourne $$$ – outside of town near Botanical Gardens but city only 5 mins away. Perfect if you still want some peace and quiet.

or one for the party people:

Prince Hotel Melbourne

It has the Prince Band Room and Mink Bar and Circa dining room $$$ These are all very cool so if you fancy staying put in your hotel and enjoying some great nightlife (perhaps after a day of shopping with your girlfriends) then this could be the place for you.

If art is more your thing then consider the Art Collection hotels in Melbourne. Each one showcases art from the artists along its many walls and usually in the suites. Very funky indeed:

Art Series - The Olsen

Art Series - The Cullen

Art Series - The Blackman

Best 5 star hotel for a girls weekend away

Lyall Hotel This is a great hotel in a good location. We enjoyed a girly shopping weekend away and stayed here - it was perfect!

Best Mid-Priced Hotels in Melbourne

My preference would be to go for the

  • Pensione Hotel Melbourne $$ – the rooms are a bit on the small size but the place itself is chic and a real bargain
  • or
  • Alto Hotel on Bourke This hotel is in the centre of Melbourne so is a good location for everything. It has won awards for its hospitality and eco-friendliness. $$

  • Best for culture/arts/shopping

The Cullen Hotel Melbourne This is just outside of the city in Prahan, famous for its shops and art. So the location is good, rooms are chic, trendy and there are plenty of facilities. Easy to get around Melbourne from here too despite not being right in the centre. Another good bargain.

    Really Budget Hotels in Melbourne

I still don't think you can beat the Pensione Hotel Melbourne for value but if you need even cheaper then try

  • Base st Kilda Hostel Melbourne
  • Yes, it's designed for backpackers but it has won awards for its funky design and amenities. Shared rooms from $30 and you can get your own room if you book in advance.
