"Brisbane markets - fresh food, arts and crafts and fashion - well worth a visit!"
A trip to a Brisbane just isn't complete without visiting one of its many markets. You'll find the most well known ones around the city but some of the suburbs also have some great markets.
That said, I think the ones in and around the main city are fabulous so no need to wander too far off the beaten track.
Best Brisbane Markets
It's tough to choose the best but these all certainly deserve a mention:
The Farmers Market at the Powerhouse Brisbane
Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month and open from 6am til noon.
Here you will find fresh produce from veggies, cheese, meat, fish, condiments and more. It's such a lovely area just to take a stroll around the grounds surrounding the Powerhouse Brisbane
It's in one of the heritage listed buildings near the Wild Arts Centre. It means that come rain or come shine, this market will be on!
Worthy of a visit even if you are staying in a hotel and don't plan to cook with any fresh produce!
The Valley Markets, Brunswick Street Mall and China Town Mall, Fortitude Valley
Open every Saturday and Sunday from 8am til 4pm.
Probably my favourite market in Brisbane. This is the place for fashion. You'll find young designers here showing off their new styles. Some great accessories, jewellery and the arts. It's quite girly so maybe leave the boys at home.
Or get them to wait in one of the many lovely cafes in the area or go for Yum Cha in Chinatown afterwards, or visit one of the clairvoyants??
Southbank Lifestyle Market
This is a permanent market and should form part of any visit to the Southbank Brisbane It's open Friday 5pm to 10pmSaturday 10am to 5pmSunday 9am to 5pm
You'll find some amazing arts and crafts here in a lovely area surrounded by great boutique shops, cafes and more. It's on Stanley Street, which is perhaps one of my most favourite streets in Brisbane.
The whole area is delightful. Come for a swim, have lunch and enjoy the river views.
West End Market, Davies Park
Located Off Montague Road at the end of Jane Street, this market offers a little bit of everything - produce, arts and crafts and fashion.
It is open every Saturday from 6am to 2pm
The park itself is lovely and this market has grown in popularity and is now quite large. It can get very busy but it's worth the jostling to find a bargain or something totally unique.
I like this market for its eateries - there are plenty of little stalls selling an array of items suitable for brunch or even just a snack.
Might be too crowded for strollers/prams.
