Adelaide Festival Centre

"Adelaide Festival Centre - Come see some great theatre, Cabaret, outdoor event or Art Display!"

Set on the banks of the River Torrens, in the heart of Adelaide, you can't really miss this eye catching modern building.

Built between 1970 and 1980, this impactful building is a hub for all things cultural. There is always likely to be something going on here during your visit to Adelaide Australia, so it is well worth having a look to see if there is anything of interest.

Did you know that the centre was built to budget and cost $21m compared to the Sydney Opera House, that was built around the same time, but cost $102m!

The centre is home to the State Theatre Company of South Australia and the main theatre itself can hold 2000 people. The Acoustics are said to be the best in the Southern Hemisphere.

Some of the things to look out for:

  • Something on Saturday - are performances for kids 3-10 years and is a great way to keep the kids entertained. These tend to run over winter
  • Theatre, dance, music, opera and comedy are the key things you can come and appreciate here. You just need to have a look at what is on.
  • There are a few dining options so you can make a bit more of your visit here. But to be honest, the number and type of restaurants is slightly limited.
  • There are usually some festivals at certain times of the year - for example the Cabaret Festival is usually every June and is usually a fun event
