Dear Traveller

Welcome to the October Edition of the

Really Useful Travel Tips Ezine.

This month's edition focuses on some up and coming events. But as usual there are travel tips and useful updates.

This Months Travel Tips

Looking after your health whilst on holiday

  • Probably the most important thing to do before you leave the country is to get the right travel insurance.
  • Did you know that if you buy your holiday on your credit card, you may be covered by your credit card and so may not need additional insurance. Make sure you contact your card provider before you travel and avoid assuming that you are covered
  • Don't forget the mosquito spray. Summer sees the start of those pesky flies that can cause more than just an annoying itch
  • Before you leave, ensure you take plenty of vitamins the two weeks prior to your travel. Most people get sick when they finally stop and relax. Looking after yourself prior to travel with herbal remedies like echinacea which will help boost your immune system

  • No vaccinations are needed for a trip to Australia but remember to consider your stop off destination if you intend to break up the journey
  • Did you know that if you are from the UK there is a reciprocal agreement in place with Australia for Health cover. It means you can see a doctor and be admitted to hospital free of charge
  • When away from home, drink bottled water even if the water is safe to drink. Water is always slightly different from what your body is used to and can cause a slight upset stomach.

  • This Month's Events in Australia

  • October sees the clocks change to daylight saving in most parts of Australia. It marks the official start of summer for many.
  • Sculpture by the Sea is a not to be missed event in Sydney. It lasts a week and will commence on 29th October. The walk from Bondi to Bronte is in itself breathtaking. During this special week, sculptures are erected right along the coastal walk and on the beach. Last year there was a giant fried egg. They range from the ridiculous to the beautiful.

  • Canberra's Flower festival will also still be in full bloom for the first two weeks of October and is definitely worth the visit to the capital territory
  • the International food festival is being held in Sydney throghout the month of October. Famous chefs will be delighting our senses over a series of events and special menus.
  • The Funniest Island comedy weekend kicks off on 17th October on Cockatoo Island in Sydney's harbour. Comedians from the UK and Australia will be attending.
