Sydney Walking Tours - Sydney Ghost Tours

<img src="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/images/sydneyghosttours.jpg" width="450" height="350" alt="Sydney Ghost Tours">

I had an awesome night last night - I finally got round to going one of those Sydney Ghost Tours.

I couldn't have picked a better night - warm, clear skies - the perfect conditions for spotting ghosts!

Sadly I didn't see anything unusual but the whole experience was fabulous! Our guide, Mark, played his part wonderfully, creating a real sense of intrigue and forbidding.

The tour itself lasts 2 hours and takes you right around the most interesting parts of The Rocks. I learned a lot about life in the area, as well as some fairly gruesome stories of some of the goings on - murder, gangs, smuggling and even one guy who cut off his own genitals.

I also now know which hotels I probably wouldn't stay in, due to the number of ghost sitings!!

If you fancy an informative and fun night out, then the Rocks Ghost Tour is well worth a look. Perfect too for entertaining bored teenagers!

Vivid Sydney - Sydney Light Festival

If you are here between 25th May and 11th June then you just have to plan an evening trip to Circular Quay.

Vivid is a festival about getting creative - light, music and ideas.

<img src="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/images/sydneybridgeopera.jpg" width="450" height="350" alt="Short Sydney Opera House and Bridge">

From 6pm til midnight the Circular Quay Foreshore comes to life in lights. The focal point is of course the Opera House. The best part is that it is totally free, so wrap up warm and come for a stroll, or book yourself a table at one of the many lovely restaurants on the Quay or at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

I'd opt for a drink at the Opera Bar and better still come on a Sunday night (before 9pm) to enjoy some free jazz.

This year a German design collective called Urbanscreen will be dazzling us by bringing the Opera House Sails to light in lights. They come with a great reputation so it's expected to be the best light show yet.

If Music is more your thing then the Opera House is putting on some pretty funky and different music. Check out Amon Tobin at the Opera House who will be creating some wacky 3D visions as well as music...it's certainly going to be different.

If you are searching for inspiration and Ideas and fancy yourself as a bit of designer then have a look at the Pecha Kucha Night (Japanese for chit chat) on 5th June. It's a free event but you have to book tickets in advance. The idea is that each presenter can show 20 images and talk about each in just 20 seconds. It makes for a fast paced event and a great place to network and "chit chat!"

Ski Holiday Australia

Now I know Australia is not the first place you think of when you are considering a ski and snow holiday. But it does have two ski areas (both close to each other) called Thredbo and Perisher. They are both about a 3 hour drive from Canberra, so it is possible to do as a long weekend from Sydney and possibly from Melbourne - you can also fly into Canberra to make the journey shorter.

The kids will totally love a weekend here. I so wish I'd learned to ski when I was young - I just don't have the confidence and dare devil instincts!

Clearly learning to snow board or ski is the big thing. Kids 4 and above can learn to ski here and there's other activities for the little ones like sledging, hot chocolate drinking and snowmen making!

<img src="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/images/weekendinthesnow.jpg" width="450" height="350" alt="Short Break holiday ski">

Sunny Beach Holiday Destinations

If you are looking for a week or weekend getaway to experience an Australia beach holiday then you really are spoiled for choice - there are so many great beaches in Australia.

My favourite places would include <a href="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/noosa-australia.html"> Noosa Australia </a> on the sunshine coast in Queensland. It has great beaches, lots of lovely accommodation, great restaurants and bars, as well as some lovely boutique shops.

Port Stephens is a 3 hour drive from Sydney and offers sheltered beaches, dolphins, whale watching and in some areas, koalas in the wild. A great option if you have kids.

Soldiers Point Holiday Park is fantastic for families. The site is just really well run. Toilets are cleaned every few hours and there is even a patrol at night to make sure everyone is keeping the noise down. Facilities are great including a swimming pool. Cabins are probably a bit over priced for what you get so I'd stick to camping here if you can. Friends of ours were here for Easter and had a great time. There was even an Easter bunny that visited.

Mornington Peninsula would be a good option for those of you near Melbourne. This is a great place to combine cute villages with great beaches and wineries.

<img src="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/images/morningtonpeninsula1.jpg" width="450" height="350" alt="Australia Beach Holidays">

Unforgettable House Boat Trip - Fun Weekend Getaways

If you are looking for fun weekend getaways in Australia then hiring a boat house is a great option.

We have done two trips with our family and both times have been a wonderful adventure. Living on a houseboat even for a weekend is very relaxing. Everything seemed to be at the perfect height for our kids to enjoy - cupboards, beds etc- it's a bit like having a full size dolls house for them to explore.

Best locations in Australia are probably:

House Boat Noosa - the Tweed River area is beautiful and the weather is usually good given its in Queensland

Gold Coast House Boat Hire - another good location option

House Boat Hire NSW - I'd go for something on the Hawkesbury River.

<img src="http://www.realaustraliatravel.com/images/boathouseechucha.jpg" width="450" height="350" alt="Floating Boat House">

Whether you have kids or are just young at heart, there is something very special about seeing animals, especially if they are in the wild

Australia has some fabulous animals and building a holiday around seeing some of these special animals is a great idea for a holiday or for fun weekend getaways.

You will just need to pick the animals you would like to see - you could go for a conventional zoo in one of the cities but I'd recommend finding them in their natural environment.

Dolphins, whales, kangaroos, penguins, seals and koalas can all be easily found if you know where to look....see my full page for more details.
